Leander Dental Crowns
Crowns Dentist Leander
At Apple Springs Family Dentistry, we provide custom, natural-looking dental crowns to restore damaged teeth. Crowns are sometimes called dental or tooth caps since they’re essentially a cover that we place over a tooth to correct its shape or appearance. Getting a dental crown is a common procedure that allows you to save your tooth and enjoy its full function again.
Reasons for Getting a Crown on a Tooth
The great thing about dental crowns is that they can be used to remedy many different situations. They can help restore a tooth’s health as well as its appearance! We’ve put together a list of some of the most common reasons for getting a crown. If you have any of the following issues, we recommend scheduling an appointment at our dental office so we can take a look and get you back to as good as new, as soon as possible!
- To strengthen a tooth weakened by decay
- To fix a cracked tooth
- To repair a broken tooth
- To restore a tooth with a large filling
- To support a tooth post-root canal therapy
- To keep a dental bridge in place
- To finish a dental implant
- To remedy cosmetic imperfections
What’s the Dental Crown Procedure Like?
Many times, the dental crown procedure takes place over two appointments. In the first, we prepare the tooth by shaping it to accommodate the coming dental crown. We then take impressions that we’ll use to design your custom, well-fitting crown. The last thing we’ll do in this initial visit is place a temporary crown so you can go about chewing and smiling without concern.
At the second appointment, we’ll remove that temporary crown and place your permanent one. Before we send you on your way, we’ll check that it’s fitting properly and that your bite (the way your upper and lower teeth fit together) looks good. You’ll walk out of our office with a restored smile!
What Are Dental Crowns Made Of?
Dental crowns can actually be made from a variety of durable materials. The main types of dental crowns are porcelain, ceramic, stainless steel, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and gold. Each one has its own advantages. For example, porcelain, ceramic, and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are designed to match a natural tooth color so that they blend in nicely with your smile. Meanwhile, gold and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are known for their durability and longevity. Our doctors can help you choose the best option for your dental needs and budget.
